Agnieszka Sobol
Institute of Urban and Regional Development

Agnieszka Sobol, PhD in economics. A researcher and an academic lecturer. An employee at the Institute of Environmental Protection – The National Research Institute and a permanent associate of the University of Silesia. Her research interests focus on interdisciplinary urban studies, especially in the field of urban sustainable development of cities. In 2010 she was awarded a prize in the nationwide competition of the Wolters Kluwer Publishing House and the ‘Samorząd Terytorialny’ [Territorial Self-Government] monthly for the best doctoral thesis on the subject of territorial self-government. In 2021 she was granted an award in the competition organized by the Polish Association of Environmental and Resource Economists for her monograph ‘Cities and City Residents in the Face of the Challenges to Adapt to Climate Change’ (P. Legutko, A. Rzeńca, P. Skubała, A. Sobol, PAN, Warsaw, 2020). An author of over 70 scientific publications. She has a long-term experience in scientific and didactic work and in cooperation with territorial self-government, business entities and NGOs. Serves as an expert for public institutions. A member of The Polish Association of Environmental and Resource Economists and since December 2022, the head of the Climate Protection Section of the association. Also the chairwoman of the local association of residents and a councillor for the local entity. She is engaged in raising citizen and environmental awareness
